The Food for Thought project grew out of research undertaken by the University of Stirling into the symbolic role of food in foster and residential child care. The project has created a variety of tools and training materials which encourage reflection and strengthen the use of knowledge about food and looked after children. Ruth Emond was the lead investigator on the project. She briefly describes the project before handing over to Keynote speaker Professor Robbie Gilligan of Trinity College Dublin who reflects on the central role of food in care.
